Fitness Strength Training With Your Home Gym

dreamstimefree_114885So you have decided this is the year you are going to get back into shape and start taking care of yourself.  Well before you run out and spend all your hard earned cash on an expensive gym membership, stop and ask yourself some questions.  Do you have the time to utilize your membership effectively?  Also can you afford to pay a sign on fee and a monthly, quarterly, or annual fee gym’s charge?

While asking yourself those questions another question might have popped in your head.  Could I put together my own home gym, and would all the equipment be affordable?  Well the answer is yes.  Of course you could go out and spend thousands of dollars on all the fancy equipment that is being sold.  But the truth be told, to get a solid total body workout you don’t need to have every piece of equipment available.  A  few simple but key pieces of equipment will suffice.

I would say first the most important piece of equipment  one can have for their home gym, office, or anywhere they want to workout would be the dumbbells.  Though one of the most simple pieces of equipment you can own, they are so versatile that they are a must have in every home gym.  From lunges to squats, and from curls to presses, the number of shear exercises you can do with  just dumbbells is endless.  They can cost a  little bit of money for high quality ones, but they are always coming out with new combo dumbbells at discount prices, and the great thing about them is once you have  a good set they usually last a very long time.

The next piece of equipment on my list would be a bench.  Once again another fairly cheap piece of equipment but a very useful one also.  By having a bench in your home gym you also increase the number of different exercises you can now do with your dumbbells.  For instance  you can now do back rows, dumbbell flys, dumbbell bench presses plus many other moves.  I would add, a bench with barbell capabilities is preferred but not necessary. Depending  on the amount of weight you want to lift, a regular bench could be all you need.

Finally the third most important piece of equipment for you home gym would be some sort of cardio machine.  Be it  an exercise bike, a treadmill, or anything that will keep your heart rate up.  Even a jump rope would work. But please remember  jumping rope takes lot’s of skill and a beginner will have a hard time getting a good workout from one, although  jumping rope is a great cardio exercise and if you do have the ability it is recommended.

With these pieces of  equipment it would be easy for you to have your own fully functional home gym to do your fitness strength training.  Never again do you have to pay a monthly fee or waste time driving back and forth from the gym.  The best thing about these pieces of equipment is that you can find them anywhere.  You can get them at your locale sporting goods store, the internet, or even at a garage sale.  If time and money were your excuses before for not exercising, then you have none anymore.  Start putting together your own home gym today.

All great information. Working out in your home can be really tough though. With the sheer number of distractions and how easy it is to talk yourself into cutting your program short… I think the cost of a outside gym is way more than worth it.

But if you have the discipline and the proper equipment built up over time then working out at home is awesome.

    Pretty good post.
